The Sunnyside Unified School District actively supports its belief that learning begins at birth.

 A high quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood center serving children ages birth to five of all abilities in an inclusive, nurturing, stimulating environment.  Programs include Title One preschool, early childhood special education, and our fee-based program (fees are adjustable based on DES eligibility.).

Parents as Teachers
Free for all families who live in the Sunnyside District, beginning in the third trimester of pregnancy until children are 5 years old. Services include home visits by parent educators, Stay and Play, Dad and Me, toy and book lending library.

Early Childhood Special Education
Special education means specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of a student with a disability. Services are available to meet the needs of all students with disabilities in district who are eligible and need special education and related services in order to benefit from their educational program.

Students with disabilities are those children evaluated as having:

• Autism (AUT)
• Emotional Disability (ED)
• Hearing Impairment (HI)
• Other Health Impairments (OHI)
• Specific Learning Disability (SLD)
• Mental Retardation (MIMR/MOMR/SMR)
• Multiple Disabilities (MD/MDSSI Severe Sensory Impairment)
• Orthopedic Impairment (OI)
• Preschool Delays: Moderate, Severe, Speech/Language Delay (PMD/PSD/PSL)
• Speech/Language Impairment (SLI)

Hours of Program
The preschool special education program is a partial-day program. The hours are as follows:

Group 1
Monday 9:30 to 1:30; Tuesday 12:30 to 3:00 ; and Thursday 9:30 to 1:30

Group 2
Tuesday- 9:30 – 11:30; Wednesday 10:00 to 2:00; and Friday 9:30 to 1:30

In order for a child to be considered for enrollment the child will need to go through a screening and/or a series of evaluations depending upon the needs of the individual child. The results of the testing and placement options are discussed with the parents.
